Weekend Homework

Hi everyone! I hope you have been having a good weekend. Before I tell you what the homework is, I must say that I am VERY impressed with the visual stimuli you have created. Good job everyone! There are 2 things you have to do before the next EL lesson on Tuesday.

1) Grammar in use book - Complete until Unit 15

2) Choose 1 Visual Stimulus from the 2 given below and answer the questions in the link provided. If you are the one who created one of the practices, do the other practice. Basically, don't attempt the visual stimulus you have created.

Career Opportunities
Assisi Hospice is an established Catholic charity that is a major hospice care provider in Singapore. The hospice services currently include 37-bedded Inpatient Wards, 2 Home Hospice teams, a Day Centre for adults and a Palliative Rehabilitation programme for adults and children that is customised according to the specific needs of the individual patient.
We are also in the midst of planning for a new purpose-built hospice to expand and improve our services and cater for the increasing need in our community.  This re-development will include 80 Inpatient beds for adults, 5 Paediatric beds for children, 3 Home Hospice teams and increased capacity for our Day Centre with enhanced rehabilitation, training and research facilities.

Be a Volunteer
Generous support and contributions from Singaporeans make it possible for the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to provide its services in meeting the needs of the less fortunate and needy in the community, regionally and internationally. The SRC welcomes both manpower and financial support. Find out how you can help make a difference by donating blood.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of the SRC. The dedication and continuous support of volunteers allow the SRC to provide its services effectively and efficiently. Some 5,000 individuals and corporate volunteers lend their time, skills, expertise, and resources in helping the SRC meet its objectives of serving humanity at home and abroad.

Creating a Visual Stimulus

For today's lesson, you will complete a visual stimulus practice and browse a list of given websites to create your own visual stimulus.

Whether you’re a gluttonous gourmand who relishes in the intricacies of fine dining, or a regular foodie excited about tucking into Singapore's local food and regional specialities, you’ll definitely enjoy the gastronomic morsels The Singapore Food Festival has to offer in the month of July.
Debuting in 1994, this annual Singapore food festival never fails to seduce the palates and appetites of locals and visitors alike, with a calendar chockfull of mini events and activities organised all over the country.

You won’t even have to travel far and wide to satisfy your cravings for authentic traditional food from the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Peranakan cuisines, whipped up piping hot and featured in not only the city and historical enclaves, but also in almost every nook and cranny of the island state.
You will also be spoilt for choice with other events like the food carnivals, tasting sessions and best of all, discounts and promotions offered by participating food and beverage establishments.
The Singapore Food Festival is a grand interactive learning experience, a Singapore food guide that gives you a closer look at the rich cultures that make our little island pulsate with energy. Talented local and international chefs hold regular cooking workshops and demonstrations during this period and if you’re lucky, you might just go home with a secret tip or two to spice up your culinary adventures in your kitchen. It’s an immensely popular food festival that appeals to both locals and tourists (with a record attendance of over 354,000 foodies last year) alike with its smorgasbord of tantalizing treats and events happening across town.

Look at the poster and the accompanying text. Answer the questions that follow.

With organisational leadership, you help strategise operational plans, while building up your capabilities in the 3rd Generation Air Force. Attracting the best of every cohort, you will experience a fast-paced career while enjoying a wide range of career opportunities.

As an Officer, your military progression will be dynamic and challenging as you take on a range of command, staff and instructional appointments from junior leadership to top management.

As a Warrant Officer, you are the Subject Matter Expert in tactical war-fighting competencies. You are part of a leadership echelon, responsible for maintaining the optimum war-fighting capability, through training, morale and discipline. Promotion to a Warrant Officer can be as early as your 6th year and is dependent on your level of progress and success through assignments, training and military education. In addition, we groom you for higher leadership role and provide an environment for you to upgrade to better opportunities, greater job responsibilities and under the Warrant Officers Scheme, you can upgrade your academic qualifications as well.

4. Look at the caption, "Dare to dream of the skies. And we'll take you there". Apart from telling the audience that they can literally fly if they joined the Air Force, what is the figurative meaning behind this caption? Support your answer with two pieces of evidence from the text.
